Heirloom tomatoes come in a range of colours including yellows, oranges, reds and purples. They come in a range of flavours, from acidic varieties which are great in sandwiches, to sweet varieties which are tasty enough to enjoy straight out of hand, some have a mild flavour and others with a rich, almost spicy tomato taste. They also have a range of textures, some varieties will be really juicy, others with be mostly flesh. Yet still, they are available in many sizes from bite-sized cherry tomatoes, to massive beefsteak varieties which can take up to a week to eat if you limit yourself to a couple of slices on your sandwich each day.
