This heirloom capsicum variety is likely Hungarian in origin.
Culinary Uses
The fruit of this variety are commonly dried and ground into a the powder commonly sold as sweet paprika. Paprika is great for adding flavour to goulashes and Mexican dishes. Paprika can also be eaten fresh and has rich, sweet and fruity flavour. Individual paprika peppers are the perfect size for cooking single-serve portions.
Growing Tips
Stake plants as they grow taller to support fruits as they develop. Pinch out tips of growing shoots to encourage plants to become bushier and produce greater numbers of flowers. Feed the soil well with an organic fertilser prior to planting. Ensure soil is free draining. Don't over-fertilise as capsicum plants are reaching maturity or they'll grow leaves at the expense of fruits. Pick paprika peppers regularly to encourage further fruit production.
How To Sow
Sow paprika seeds 6mm deep spacing plants about 45cm apart to allow room for growth. Choose a growing site that receives full sun or light shade.
When To Sow
Paprika seeds can be sown all year round in topical and subtropical areas of Australia. In temperate regions of Australia sow from September to November for best results.

Sweet paprika takes between 12 and 24 days to germinate after sowing.
Time To Harvest
Your first sweet paprika peppers will be ready to pick 13 to 15 weeks after sowing.
