Capsicum 'Golden Wonder'
Growing Advice
Scientific Name: Capsicum annuum var. annuum (Grossum Cultivar Group)
Origin:
Capsicum plants are native to the Americas. The 'Golden Wonder' heirloom capsicum variety was developed sometime in the 1920's or early 30's.
Culinary Uses:
Can be picked when full sized and green or left to ripen further and picked when golden yellow for a sweeter flavour. Great stuffed, chopped and added to casseroles, used as a pizza topping, or just eaten raw in salads and sandwiches.
Growing Tips:
'Golden Wonder' capsicums should be kept well watered or growth may be stunted. Avoid over-fertilising or bushes will produce lots of leaves at the expense of flowers. Grows best at a soil pH range between 6.0 and 7.0. Will produce best when planted in full sun but can also be grown under light shade.
When To Sow:
Sow 'Golden Wonder' capsicum seeds all year round in subtropical and tropical regions, or from September to November in temperate regions of Australia.
How To Sow:
Sow seeds 6mm deep spacing plants about 45cm apart to allow plenty of room for growth.
Time To Germination:
Capsicum seeds take between 12 and 24 days to germinate.
Time To Harvest:
Your first 'Golden Wonder' capsicums should be ready to harvest 9 to 11 weeks after sowing. Harvest capsicums regularly to encourage further flower production.
