Other Common Names:

This heirloom capsicum variety is also sometimes called 'Marconi Rosso' and 'Red Marconi'.

Origin:

'Marconi Red' is a heirloom capsicum bred originally in Italy.

Sweet and thick walled this capsicum variety is ideal for slicing and adding to stews, preserving in seasoned oil and adding to antipasto platters, eating raw in salads and sandwiches, or for stuffing and roasting.  Can be used green or red.

Growing Tips:

'Marconi Red' capsicums produce best in a location that receives full sun but will also grow in light shade.  Water regularly and thoroughly to ensure fruits fill out fully.  Plant into well drained soil rich in organic matter but don't over-fertilise as the plants are growing or they'll grow lots of leaves at the expense of fruit production.  Does best in a soil pH range of 6.0 to 7.0.  'Marconi Red' has good resistance to several diseases that can attack capsicums including Potato Virus Y and Tobacco Mosaic virus.  Nip off shoot tips regularly to encourage plants to bush up.  Pick capsicums regularly to encourage further flower production and high yields.

When To Sow:

In Australia 'Marconi Red' capsicums can be sown all year round in tropical and subtropical regions, or from September to November in temperate and frost-affected areas.

How To Sow:

Sow 'Marconi Red' capsicum seeds 6mm deep spacing plants about 45cm apart to allow plenty of room for growth.

Germination Time:

'Marconi Red' capsicum seeds take between 12 and 24 days to emerge after sowing.

Harvest Time:

'Marconi Red' capsicums will take between 10 and 12 weeks before they produce fruits.
